Welcome to my web page. My name is Scott Mallory, and this is the first assignment in the Intro to DHTML course that I am taking this summer (2007). I have always had an interest in learning to create web pages, often thinking that it would be a fun thing to do for a job, at least a part-time one. I am learning it is a lot of fun, but also a lot of work in that there is an extraordinary amount of detail that goes into creating a web page.
The computer I am using for the class is an HP a706 running on a high speed internet circuit. I have several friends who still use dial-up, but that type of service is extremely slow and I've found it to be not very conducive to surfing the web.
Some of the topics I'll be presenting in this page are:
Let's see, where do I begin. I was born in a log cabin No, that's too
corny, and I want to keep this under ten volumes. The short story is I grew up in Connecticut
in a small town near Hartford. I went to and graduated from Ithaca College in upstate NY in
1975. After graduation, I worked for a short time in Hartford at an insurance company
before moving to Methuen, Massachusetts while working in Boston. Shortly afterwards, I
started working at Instinet. I started there as a programmer, but eventually worked my way up
to managing the computer operations group at our data center in Bedford. I have recently
become unemployed due to company downsizing in which our entire group was let go. I am looking
for new opportunities, but have taken some time to take a couple of computer-related courses in
order to enhance my skill set.
I am currently married to a lovely woman who is a music school teacher. We have three grown
children and a dog. Two are out of the house, one is away at college and one lives with us.
I'll leave it to the reader to determine who lives with us. ;=) Of the 2 older kids, the oldest
is living in New York City pursuing a career in sound recording technology and hoping to land a
job at
one of the largest studios there. The next oldest is working in Boston as an assistant general
manager at a fitness club. She is enjoying it, getting to meet all sorts of new people. One of
the Boston Red Sox players just recently came in and signed up for a membership.
The youngest child is at college studying physics, and enjoying it
very much, he tells us. Our dog is a mixed breed, a cross between a poodle and a bichon frise.
While playful, he also has come to think of the house as his own, and takes it seriously as his
domain. I'm looking forward to the day when I can turn over the bills to him.
I currently have 2 hobbies, skiing and photography.
My wife and I have been avid
cross-country skiers for many years now. We found it is very relaxing to be able to get out
into nature where it is very quiet and all you can hear is the snow falling.
We sometimes get to spot animals in their habitat. However, a couple of years
ago we decided to try downhill skiing in order to join a lot of the other extended family
members who had taken up that sport. At first, we didn't we would do very well at it. However,
after a few lessons, we have gotten fairly good at it and are really enjoying ourselves. Our
favorite mountain so far is Sunday River in Maine. It consists of 8 separate peaks and over
130 trails, with many trails for each level of skier.

I have enjoyed photography ever since my parent's bought me my first camera for graduation
from high school. It was a Canon FT. It has a metal body and by comparison to today's cameras,
it weighs as much as a boat anchor. However, it was my first experience with SLR photography
and I purchased several additional lenses to add to the versatility of the camera. Over the
years I have bought other Canon cameras, the latest being a Canon T70. I also own
a 2 megapixel Olympus C-700, which when I bought it was a good digital camera. It certainly
needs to be upgraded to one that can produce a much better image, but for now, it is OK.
Here is a small selection of assorted pictures.
